We are excited to invite you and your family to participate in the Michigan Metro AFL-CIO Labor Day March on Monday, September 7th, 2026. This is an important opportunity to stand in solidarity with dozens of other unions — including building trades, teachers, teamsters, UAW, OPEIU, and many more — and to celebrate the hard work and contributions of everyday blue-collar workers across our city and state.
Event Details:
- Street Closures Begin: 7:00 AM
- Staging Area (IBEW Local 58 Union Hall): 1358 Abbott, Detroit, MI 48226
- Arrive & be ready: By 8:30 AM
- March Step-Off: 9:00 AM
- OPEIU Local 40 Line-up near the corner of 8th & Porter St near Batch Brewing Company. We will be near the middle of the marching line.
- Route: March through downtown Detroit, ending at Roosevelt Park
Parking:
Free parking will be available on 6th Street at Abbott, Howard, and Porter, with three dedicated parking lots. Additional street parking is available on Abbott and Howard west of Trumbull.
Why March:
This march is more than a parade — it’s a powerful display of unity and strength in the face of ongoing attacks on our unions and our rights. Our union is fighting hard at both hospitals, and this event is a chance to show our collective resolve, demand justice, and elevate the voices of workers everywhere.
Bring your family, your friends, wear your union T-shirts, and prepare to make your voice heard. This is a time to celebrate your work, connect with fellow union members, and demonstrate to the community the strength we hold together.
