Weingarten Rights: Learn and Exercise your Rights!
It is our legal right to have Union representation present at any meeting that could lead to discipline or termination. We are protected by law when we say to any supervisor: "If this meeting could lead to discipline or termination, I request my Union representative be present."
Management can either provide a Union representative, reschedule when one is available, or continue the meeting. If management refuses to provide a Union rep, we politely and respectfully decline to participate or sign anything and contact a rep ASAP to take appropriate legal action.
As a reminder, if a manager offers you Union representation for a conversation, the answer should almost always be yes! These conversations are completely confidential. We would rather be with you 10 times when we didn't need to be than miss the one we should have been at. Union reps know the contract, document the conversation, and HAVE YOUR BACK!
